Q-tine tank temperature control in the Tropics

Hi All,

I live in Bangkok, Thailand. I want to set up a q-tine facility. I cannot put a chiller on this tank and so I am worried about temperature - particularly temperature fluctuations.

I have two options:

(1) Set up the tank in my living room. The living room is air-conditioned, but it is not AC 24-7. Hence the temperature fluctuates probably from 75-90f.

(2) Set up the tank in a utility/storage room. This room is part of the main house and has window which can be opened 24-7 (we are not talking about an out-house or light structure attached to the house). So the temperature will follow outdoor temperature fairly closely. This time of year ranging from about 82-92. This tank can also be much bigger. Say 75 gals versus about 35 gals.

I am inclined towards option 2. To promote temperature stability I would propose to stand a big fan next to the tank, blowing across the (open) surface. I would put this on a reverse-daylight timer so that it "cools" the tank during the warmest part of the day. I am quite confident I could achieve a reasonably stable temperature of 82-84f. A bit warmer than ideal, but stable and bigger and better than not q-tining at all.

I would greatly appreciate constructive feedback.

Thanks in advance.

Is this QT just for fish? I don't see an issue. As long as you don't have anything artificially heating the water like powerful lights the water should stay mid 80's. Even upper 80's will be fine. I'd use a big hang on filter or airstone to ensure proper oxygen levels.

Thanks. That is what I am thinking. I just wanted some sanity checks :)

You could get away with the 75, what I do on my 40 is I run an old canister filter, plus I have a sponge filter, I don't run but have a power head that I turn late at night when it's colder.

Since I know that my qt runs at higher temps, I don't keep to many fishes in qt...Since there is less oxygen...
I do get very hot weather over here in the Caribbean.

Caribbean - guessing we are in similar situations then! Thanks.
