q's about my flower pot

i just got this flower pot coral. i have tryed searching for one just like it on the web to find out if where i put it in my tank is a good spot for it to stay long term. the pic is 1 day after i got it.<BR>

i have a om squirt shooting water by it once a min. with a 15k 175 watt halide over it in my 125. seems happy but its new. and are they easyer than the pink ones? and would i loose it if i fraged a peice off it?

The pink ones are actually considered easier than the green ones, but looks like you are off to a good start....

day 2 its looking realy good too. i lightened up the flow by it to see if it would extend more tommorrow. i am seeing little buds that look like they would drop some day. that would be a healthy sign!

You might want to move it so that the line of flesh isn't in the sand. From your picture it looks like it might be. That is usually the first place of infection in these corals, and it appears you have either stokesi or pendulus which are the hardest ones to take care of.

These corals exist in two different forms in nature. They exist in colonial forms growing off of rocks and also exist as solitary corals living in the sand. If you coral was a colonial form and was broken off the rocks, the sand will irritate the tissue causing brown jelly infection that can and most likely will kill it. Solitary corals generally do okay in the sand.

Otherwise, it looks okay. Make sure to feed it plenty.

there is some rock on the underside of the coral so i guess i should put a small rock under it to get it up off the sand?

I would lie it flat on the sand. Rock would abrade the tissue as well. The problem lies in the fact that when this coral gets really, truly healthy, it will actually expand the perimeter tissue out and down around the base of the skeleton/rock. This expanding/contracting of the tissue is what causes the abrasion of the tissue if it touches sand/rock.
