unfortunately i got an ich outbreak. my livestock consists of the following in a 60gal reef tank with a 40gal refugium/sump
Fish:
1 mandarin goby
1 powder blue tang
1 flame angel
1 lawn mower blenny
1 bamboo shark (still in egg sack)
1 fire goby
1 pair of true percula
inverts:
seabae anemone
red starfish
12 hermit crabs
8 emerald crabs
12 snails
corals:
frogspawn
xenia
zoas
mushrooms
star polyps
unfortunately i have been very impatient with this tank. i did not quarantine anything this time around. (dumb idea especially with a powder blue).
From the beginning i made the assumption that i would one way or another end up with ich in my tank, whether it is from addition of new fish, or some dormant ich hitch hiking on live rock from the corals i add into the main tank. (that was my initial justification for not quarantining my fish before adding them to the main display tank).
i feed my fish various foods daily. first i start off with formula 1 flakes soaked in kent marine garlic extract (in hopes of increasing the fish's resilience to ich). Then i feed the tank and some fish with a small portion of cyclopeze. Finally in the afternoon i feed the inverts with different liquid type invert food. Please keep in mind that I feed small amounts of food throughout the day to keep from overfeeding.
Asides from the pair of true percs i just purchased, none of my fish are showing no signs of stress, they all eat like pigs and swim as if they were normal. only the powder blue has apparent signs of ich. i have been treating the pair of percs with fresh water dips and target feeding them with frozen mysis shrimp mixed in with 2 drops of garlic extract.
i have been successful in the past with keeping ich under control with garlic extract in other tanks. However, i never had a fish that was as ich sensitive as the powder blue.
so the problem i have now is i want to treat my tank with hyposalinity, but i am worried for my mandarin goby. how can i rid the tank of ich if i can not treat all my fish?
has anyone tried just living with ich in the tank with sensitive fish such as the powder blue?
fyi my water parameters are "perfect."
help is greatly appreciated.
