We've had our fish in a 20-gallon QT for over three weeks. They are being treated with cupramine. The tank has a couple of logs in it and other hiding places. one of the logs is permanently occupied by a red-striped goby.
so today the lawnmower blenny was cruising around the tank more than usual. There's no algae in there so it's been hard to get it to eat. I've had some luck with cyclo-peeze and algae flakes though. I couldn't tell if it was thinner. Suddenly after a water change, the blenny zoomed into the goby's log and the goby struck out at it. I don't know if it got a piece of it or not. the blenny zoomed around the tank and at one point smashed against the glass cover and then went down and eventually settled down, but not in its usual hiding place but under a pvc pipe. he was still there a few hours ago. I checked ten minutes ago and it was not only still there but it was dead.
Trauma? Starvation? I also noticed our mandarin is moving real slowly tonight. we had gotten some rod's reef food last week and appeared to be having some luck getting them to eat that. I fed tiny bits of it three times a day plus a dash of worms. There is no algae in the tank at all.
I had been told that there was a good chance the blenny and the mandarin wouldn't survive and would starve. Think that's what happened? My ammonia levels are close to zero. I do water changes every other day, using ro/di water. salinity was slightly lower than it's been before. Ph is the same.
we really worked hard to save these fish (there are also two black and white clowns in there), the last survivors of a velvet outbreak and hope we didn't do anything that caused their death.
