QT - do we prophetically treat for Brook?

Sorry for your loss. Raising the tank temp won't speed up anything. For future reference brook can be treated by performing formalin (or Quick Cure) baths for 30-45 minutes every other day for a total of 3-5 dips. I agree with Snorvich and do not treat any fish prophylactically with meds except Prazi.

Sorry to hear Sparky, very sad.

The reason for me for starting this thread is that I'm really sensitive to Brook. Had a total wipe of a 14 year old established 90g tank, that still had the original cycling fish (we cycled with live fish 14 years ago). Lots of old time friends in that tank like a 12 year old maroon clown, 5+ year old power blue tang, 6+ Heniochus, plus more. I had not put a new fish in there for over 4 years.

Once I get a tank established I don't usually add things that often, so what I am doing now is designing my QT system so I can leave it empty but fill it as soon as I acquire a new resident. Going to leave filter floss cut to size in the sump of the DT, then when I need the QT will fill it directly from DT water, put in the floss (in one of those box HOB filters) and it's going. Use DT water as needed for QT period, and then after QT over, throw away the floss and clean the tank, leave dry.

I'm now thinking that I will not treat cupramine unless needed. This way I can also QT inverts. Adding inverts is how I got brook the last time

Thank You all. Lost 12 fish in a week including the male clown which was other original fish I started with. Years ago I raised the fry of these clowns and sold some to the local LFS, so sad that this happened.
Its been a long six months breaking down my original DT tank, setting up a transitional tank which was doing so great with my last three survivors of the DT, that wasn't taking cared for in over a year. Add some chromis and damsels to transition tank to make sure it would be ok for my clowns. Even rescued a 6in Hippo (from a dr's office tank I cared for) with a severe case of hlle, he improved so much.
Finally go the my DT polished up and filled, new 70 gal sump behind the wall. The tank was looking so good, new Kessil's lights and aquascaping, ugh.
I was going to set up a refuge but think I'll wait and set up QT like pokerman so I'll have healthy fish once the 6 weeks are up.
Again, thanks everyone.

Something that I do have to consider is that I travel a lot. I have to use friends or automatic feeding methods. My QT is not in a very observable location so for me to identify an issue it is going to have to be very obvious. Also and I freely admit this is that I'm not all that experienced with sick fish. These are reasons I may want to treat prophetically.
The coral guy at my local LFS is also recommending me to treat cupramine in the QT. He tells me its very low impact on fish but high impact on parasites. Seachem support tells me that Paraguard is effective against brook.

Wondering now if I should do the cocktail in the QT. The cocktail of cupramine, 2cycles of parzi and paraguard. I know some on the board do not believe in preventative medication, but even most of them are doing parzi in QT.

Just not sure
