QT everything?

I want to do everything I can to prevent ich from getting into my DT.

Do I need to quarantine everything before putting it into the DT tank, eg. macro algae, anemones, shrimp, snails, crabs etc....

You'll get lots of varied responses on this one. Me, every fish goes through Prazi and TTM. All the other stuff - coral, macro, shrimp, crabs, rock, etc. - sits in a fishless reef for 72 days.

Once you get in the habit of doing it this way, it's pretty easy!

My QT Process: fish: formalin dip, then TTM mixed with prazipro. Then 6 weeks observation. Corals: Coral Rx dips weekly for 6 weeks. Everything else: fish less QT for 6 weeks.

For me it's all about trusted source. I QT all fish. I get snails from Reefcleaners, so they get a saltwater rinse and go right in. Corals I have bought from Divers Den. They get a dip and in they go. ANYTHING from my local fish stores gets QT'ed. If you know what your adding comes from a system with fish, it's a risk.

Only problem with that is putting coral in directly just after one dip will kill the present pests but one dip may not get any eggs off the coral so you're still introducing the pests.

Was that for me?

I have built a plan based on many posts I have read here, and that's really where all my information has come from. I know that Reefcleaners.com is fishless, so there is no risk of Ich or any other nasty's. That's where I get all my snails. I have been told to rinse snails anyway to be sure in case anything is attached. They can't be infected, but they can still carry something on them.

I have heard that Divers Den also has fishless systems for their corals, but you still have to worry about red bugs and such, so buy a bottle of Reef Dip and follow the directions. It's simple.

When your at your local fish store, and you see they have fish and snails and coral all in the same system, you have a real risk of infecting your tank if you don't QT everything.

That's what I have put together from many nights reading here, and so far it has worked great for me. Hope that helps.
