No, I did mean acclimate. I posted a response about acclimating corals and was blasted by many reefers who claim the most they ever do is temperature acclimate them. I was very surprised to learn that many people just dump their corals in the tank.

I agree... that was also something I was shocked to learn. I always acclimate corals similiar to fish, then follow up with a series of coral baths before adding them to the tank.

Apparently this is not common practice though.

It was news to me. I thought this was SOP, and I've always drip acclimated corals and dipped them in Lugol's.

Same. Keep it that way too. Helps restore color and builds resistant to bleaching / bugs.

I'd rather acclimate and dip than just temperature drop! Not worth the hassle to remove it after an infestation.

I qt my tangs in a qt tank with live rock and live sand.

I'd suggest that you leave the light off for a week or two, as it's more for you than the fish.

Good Luck!

How come you use LS/LR? Well I can understand the rock but the sand? Do you have a clean up crew in there too or do you siphon the sand as well? Just wondering as it is not needed.

Thanks!

I use LR & LS also... I like to make my "Quarrantine" set-up similiar to my display.

My "Hospital" or "Treatment" set-up is completely different, and is only filled up while I have fish in QT.

Just checked on him/her (no idea what sex it is) a few minutes ago and I saw it making laps around the QT. It goes into the pvc structure I have set up, peeks out and looks around, then swims around the tank for 15 seconds or so then goes back into the pvc cover.

I also placed a tiny piece of nori on a rock via rubberband again and I saw him take a couple nibbles at it. I will leave it in there overnight and see the outcome tommorow morning.

It looks calmer but I have the lights off on the QT for now. I will have to get a good look at it in the coming days to check for illness, although hopefully with good water params as I have, and nori as the diet, it can self-heal if it has any.

All good signs! No real need for the light except for you to check out the fish more closely. I usually leave mine off for a few days, or a week as suggested below, then gradually put it on a few hours a day, to finally all day for the last week. I've never really read anything on it, but it seems reasonable to accustom the fish to brighter "daytime" light before it goes into a very brightly lit DT.

My qt tank is set up like Tswifty8's qt as I feel stressed out fish have a far better chance in a reef type setting.

I also have a 10 gallon hospital tank with large pvc elbows for medicating.

Good Luck!

Ah ok... makes sense.. so you have "2" QT tanks then ;)

It seems to be fairing well this afternoon, swimming around and nibbling at the nori. I have a flood light on over the tank with a soft glow.

I will try and take a video of it and post later on today.

Thanks fellas. Glad to know. It had me worried the first few hours. I do notice some of its color to be lighter on the right side though. It doesn't look like ich or velvet really.. just whiter in color... more bland? Maybe I am over-analyzing as it i my first tang :)

I wouldn't worry about much... welcome to owning a tang

You'll drive yourself crazy if you worry about every little bump and scratch you see on it.
