QT Prophylactic tx for ich?

So After an ich outbreak in my fowlr a few months ago, I only had a 4" dogface puffer. Im leaving the DT fallow for 9 wks. I had QTd the dogface for 6 wks in a 29g, and he showed no signs of ich, no spots, no flashing nothing. So he probably had it subclinically? Going forward do you see any issues with treating with copper in QT for fish that can tolerate copper? I've just lost faith in simple QT even for extended periods of time.

Yes, you have to assume that the puffer is infected and treat.

Regarding prophylactic copper Tx, yes, that will work. One drawback is that copper medications can't be combined with other additives (i.e. prime/amquel), so if you need to do a water change if you have problems with NH4, which in turn affects your Cu levels.

Consider Hypo or tank transfer as a QT treatment as well. Both are less stressful for the fish. There are reports of resistance to Hypo, but in my mind, for prophylactic treatment this is an acceptable risk.
