QT question

I purchased a blue tank from a local dealer yesterday. The fish was in here treatment system. She told me, and I trust her, that the fish had been in her QT for a month and treated with prazi and that the system has cooper in it. She said she never observed any signs of ick or other illness on the fish. Do I need to QT the and run my standard treatments (copper an parzi) He is in my QT now and looks great.

Yes. If your intention is to keep ICH out of your life you must QT all new fish. She nor you have ability to see ICH in all of its life stages. Why not just run your purchase through QT and not ever have to worry about it in the future? Cheap insurance.

Another consideration: Was your fish the only one in their treatment system for the entire month, or were fish coming and going? Every time a new fish was added to the same QT your fish was in (or a QT tied into their overall treatment system), the clock resets.

I can't add a thing to the previous two posts, other than to completely agree with them. Especially with Ich prone tangs, it's just not worth taking a chance.

Of course. If the "system" had copper and this fish was in a tank that was part of the system, that isn't quarantine at all. The fish sharing water (and disease, parasites, etc.) with every fish in the store. No lfs runs copper at a high enough level to kill all ich and that level they do run can mask velvet. A dealers idea of a QT and the idea of most hobbyists is very different. The LFS wants to keep the fish salable (nothing wrong with that) ; QT means so much more for hobbyists. You can search and find at least a dozen reasons to always use a QT; ich in s just one. IMO, a fish that went through what yours did needs QT even more than other fish; which means nothing, all fish need a QT regimen. Even DD, perhaps the best source of fish on the planet, strongly suggests that their fish be quarantined.

I have 1000+ gals of DTs in my house, all fish have gone through my ich regimen. All tanks are ich-free. Not a coincidence.
