Qt question

Just went through quarantine with a few new fish in a bare tank with just a sponge filter, heater and powerhead. It was kind of a hassle because I had to do daily water changes 25% to keep ammonia down.
Broke down and cleaned QT until my next fish purchase
My question is, I have some extra dry rock leftover from when I aquascaped (caribsea dry rock). Would it be helpful if I threw this rock into my sump and kept it there only pulling it out to put in future QT setups. This way it should have some bacteria on it.

i keep a few bags of bio media in my sump when i need qt i put them in the hang on back filter of my qt and bam instant bio filter. i don't reuse these bags i toss them after because i use copper in my qt. I get new bags and bio media.

Buy some extra sponges for your sponge filter and throw those in your sump. Then they'll be seeded with bacteria when you're ready for more fish. The dry rock thing would work too, but if you had to medicate the QT tank, you'd have to take the rock out and dry it out completely before adding any medications (especially copper). You wouldn't want to throw some rock back in your sump that a sick fish has been in contact with and cross contaminant your display tank and you won't want the rock to absorb any medication. So yeah, I would just put some sponges in your sump.

Thanks for replies.
So would I be correct in assuming that if there is no need to medicate during the qt I could throw thesponge back in my sump for next time however if I do need to medicate I would throw the sponge out?

I'd throw it away or disinfect it...never put anything that was in contact with your qt tank in your main system....if it came from the main system consider it contaminated once you put it in the qt tank...better sage than sorry....just my opinion.

Agreed with all these guys. Everything moves 1 way when it comes to seeding QT tank.
Display -> QT tank -> Disinfect or better yet trash -> then start over with new media in display...
Personally even if I have no plans on buying anything that may need QT I always I have some sponge in the fuge ready to go... Just in case [emoji106]
