qt system idea

so ive been throwing around idea of having a qt tank set up all the time. I would like to run any new fish through a couple rounds of prazi and then copper. once the copper treatment has finished, do I need to get the copper out of the water? or does it not matter since it's a fish qt tank. as I said, I'd like it set up all the time, but we'll see how it goes since it would probably sit empty moreover than not. any advice would appreciated.

copper will stay in water so you need to take it out, you also do not want to introduce new fish to .5 copper instantly

you can run your ht all the time however depending on what bug shows up its a good idea to disinfect your tanks

honestly the best idea is to have new salt water on hand, and keep some filter media in your sump so you can start your qt in a matter of minutes and have it already cycled

My only concern with keeping media in my sump is - what if there are unknown problems in that tank? then wouldn't I possibly be transferring that to the qt tank?

you should have a clean tank. if you think you have a unknown problem i would first take care of that. no point in quarantining fish just to add it do a potentially contaminated display.

the point of a proper qt method/system/procedure is to ensure you never have problems in your Display

I had a nasty velvet outbreak in my DT, it is sitting fallow right now for 12 weeks to ensure anything that needs a host dies off.
I setup 2 15gal qt tanks that will be running permanently. Nothing goes into the DT now without being qt for 2 months. I will be dosing prazipro and also doing TTM before any fish goes into the DT.
The stress of the velvet outbreak and losing my prized fishes is not worth it anymore. QT is a must for me now...;)

I just lost mine to Velvet as well. I'm looking to QT treat with Paraguard as this will deal with Velvet as well as ich.
