QT tank questions

I am at the 3 month mark on my 55 gallon DT and I am going to be setting up a QT in anticipation of getting a pair of clownfish soon.

The only fish in my DT are 2 Damsels atm.

I am a little confused as to the set-up of the QT. I understand that I need a 10 gallon tank--heater--powerhead--PVC for hiding...

What type of filter to I need?
Do I use new saltwater or water from the DT?
If I use new water, will the tank need to cycle first?

Thanks in advance for your help!

you can take some water out of your DT and transfer it into you QT without making any NSW. On my QT I have a aqua clear power filter with no chemical filtration because i was treating with copper, but i think a regular HOB filter will do just fine.

Personally I use an aquaclear power filter more for flow than anything else. I keep a sponge in my sump at all times. this way it already has all of the beneficial bacteria needed. when I need to setup the QT I place the sponge in the PF, use 1/2 water from the DT, 1/2 freshly made. make sure it is at proper temp & PH, then drip acclimate the new arrivals and place in QT for 4 weeks.
