Qt tank size?

I have a temporary quarantine stocklist question for you. I'm going to be doing the Tank Transfer Method for an ICH issue. I have a 75g, but due to a couple losses in my DT likely due to the ICH, my stocklist isn't at full capacity for a 75g. So, fish are as follows<br />
<br />
1 Spot Foxface - 4"<br />
Flamehawk - 2" (pretty little guy still)<br />
2 Occ Clowns (maybe 1.5-2")<br />
Bicolor Blenny - 4"<br />
Firefish - 3"<br />
<br />
What size tanks do you think i need? Could i get by with a couple of 20g for the 72 hour segments of the process? What about a 40g at the end when i'm waiting out the DT fallow period? I have an ungodly amount of claypots i've cut and sanded down the edges on, so i can make the tanks with as much of a maze and as many hiding places as i like. (I have enough pots to do several tanks so i can let them dry in between). Thanks in advance!<br/>

The 20 gallon tanks are pushing it a bit for tank transfer. Adding Prime on day 2 may make it acceptable. However, I am not sure that a 40 gallon will work unless it is cycled.

Thanks Steve. I forgot to mention that Ive taken every piece of extra rock that I own, put it into rubber maid container with salt water and ammonia. By the time I'm ready for tank transfer I'll have enough cycled rock to keep ammonia in check at every point in the process.

I'm just thinking for space, will the fish get along in a 20g? I'd do a 10g if I thought they'd get along, but I feel that may be pushing it.

I would not try a 10 gallon but the 20 gallon does not need to be full. I am looking at floor plan space rather than gallonage space.

Alright great, thanks! So just keep em like 75% full?

A Second question for you... It's been about 2 months since any new addition to the tank. Should I do a treatment of prazipro or anything after the ttm while I wait for the tank to be fallow? Or is it worth it? Would flukes have shown themselves by now? Anything else other than ich I should take preventative measures worth?

PraziPro is such a mild medication with very few ill effects noted by people that it is well worth the investment to treat your current fish, IMO. honestly though, you should have seen the effects of flukes by now if they were present... so it is your call. just telling you what I would personally do, FWIW :)

Thanks, I appreciate it. Considering the massive pita taking all the rock work out and doing this is, I think I'll do it while I have the opportunity. Thanks again everyone, I really appreciate the advice.

you can actually dose PP into a full reef and supposedly does no harm. i'd personally do it when the fish are in a QT to not have to risk anything though.

Thanks for all the help so far, Steve (and everyone else). Do you think a 20g high (or even a 20g long) would be big enough for the remainder of the QT time as the tank sits fallow? It'd be for about 8 weeks, after the 2 week TTM. As a refresher, my current stocking is as follows:

1 Spot Foxface - 4"

Flamehawk - 2" (pretty little guy still)

2 Occ Clowns (maybe 1.5-2")

Bicolor Blenny - 4"

Firefish - 3"

I have a bunch of pre-cycled stones and rocks that should be able to keep ammonia issues totally in check.

Thanks! Would the 20g long or high be better? I'm asking this in terms of them all getting along without any aggression for that long. Or am I over thinking this and both would be ok?

Long is better because of real estate. Gallonage is less important.

Hi Steve, I have a follow up question i'm hoping you can give me some insight on. Just as a refresher, i'm wondering how big of a QT tank i'll need for my fish. I have plans for keeping ammonia in check. My current stocklist is:

1 Spot Foxface - 4"

Flamehawk - 2" (pretty little guy still)

2 Occ Clowns (maybe 1.5-2")

Bicolor Blenny - 4"

Firefish - 3"

You had said a 20g should be good for this. If i added a Melanurus Wrasse to my mix, would i still be able to QT the bunch in a 20g do you think?

be careful with Melanurus Wrasse's. I had one kill all my Bangaii Cardinalfish while QT'ing in a 75g. Mean little bugger... someone took him from me and the wrasse killed several of his fish too.

i personally think that 20g is too small for a 4-8 week period for that many fish. if you have the space, those 40g breeder tanks that Petco sells would be perfect. $40 during the $ per gallon sale. or you could do two 20g tanks.

are you treating for Ich as well, or just QT?

+1

20gal is too small for that many fish. A 40gal breeder would be a good solution as Spar recommends above.

Don't add any new fish right now. If you bring in a new fish that has velvet, flukes or anything else, you will infect your entire stock.

Get your current problem under control, fish back into DT then think about new additions.

3 fish in 5 gal bucket for TTM
1 each true perc clown, diamond watchman goby and flame angel
all medium size from live aquaria .
is this doable?

I'd imagine ok for the clown and goby, but I would think the flame is cramped in the bucket.
