QT treatment question

After learning a lesson the hard way, I have now set up a 40B QT. My question is do I treat the tank/fish when introducing them into the QT, or only if there becomes any issue.

I have heard of people using safety stop by blue life as a precaution. Is this advisable or not needed.

Thanks.

Everyone has different quarantine protocols. I personally do not dose any meds, other than Prazi, prophylactically. My quarantine procedure may involve FW dips. It depends upon the health and the symptoms of the fish. I then do TT and depending upon dip results dose Prazi concurrently. After TT I move them into a fully cycled QT and they are observed for at least 5 weeks.

I looked up "Blue Life Safety Stop", but the manufacturer does not list the active ingredients so it's hard to say what it does/doesn't do. However, I don't know of any dipping/bath solution that will completely eradicate external protozoa. You would need to treat with copper or chloroquine phosphate for that. Or tank transfer is a good non-chemical solution for Crypto (s/w Ich) IMO.

Since diseases are not always visibly present right away, it is best to QT all new fish purchases prior to putting them in your DT. Most fish diseases are highly contagious, so a sick fish will make all your other fish sick and then you've got a real mess on your hands. At least in QT... the sick fish and the disease is contained.

From what I have read, Blue Life Safety Stop has formalin and methylene blue meant for separate baths. 100% Agree that it's not going to cure any active infections - QT is the best course of action to ensure any disease is isolated and treated if necessary.

Is there a specific brand of Prazi (ie. Thomas labs, Hikari).

My plan is all fish will be QT for 4 weeks. If anything just for observation (hopefully), treating if needed.

My concern is it better to be preventative and treat anyway.

Thanks

I like this one.

I agree with all above. I am especially leery of any treatment that does not list ingredients.
