QT & Tunning Skimmer ?'s

I will start off with my QT question. I almost about two weeks into my QT for my first two fish. My question is that when I move over the fish to the DT, can I re-use the water and everything in the QT if I didn't have any disease or ich and didn't treat with anything? Would I also need to replace the filter as well if it isn't stained?

I have a Reef Octopus 150SS skimmer and have had it running for about two weeks now so I'm sure its broke in. However nothing is collecting in the collection cup, no black/brown crude or anthing. Could it be because I only have a CUC in my tank atm? Attached is a picture of where my level is at now.

re: the skimmer. it is most likely there's just not enough junk in the water to really pull out.

re: qt.

depends on your protocol. are you using a long term QT that is fully cycled? or are you prophylactically medicating?

if you're medicating, i would chuck the water and the filter media. if you're not, sure keep it.

with my QT tank, i used the water i changed out of my display for the water change each week. so i would drain out the main tank and replace with freshly made salt water. then i would drain the QT tank, dump that water, and then refill with the water i just drained from the main tank.

That's not a bad idea for the water change. Will have to be something I will have to keep in mind for my next one. Last time I just made two brand new waters.

And no this isn't really a cycled QT or a permanent one. I figured once I move the fish over to the DT from the QT I would want more fish right away and just would place the in the QT that's set up already, once I match the LFS parameters.
