hi my recent qt tank is 10gal with a eclipse hood and bio wheel. i just bought a 55 gal to set up as a qt. what should i use in it for biological filtration qt emperor bio wheel or something else.

thank you

If you're using it as a quarantine tank, I assume you want to be able to dose medications, so make sure whatever biological filtration you pick has an easy way to remove all media that absorbs chemicals from the water, such as activated carbon.

Personally, in my quarantine tanks I dont use filters. I put in a powerhead or two for good water movement and then I rely on decent water changes daily to keep the bad stuff down.

I'm assuming the cloth stuff biowheels are made of will absorb copper. Probably not TONS of it, but some, so you'll need to redose more often if you leave the biowheels in place on the Emperor filter systems.

good info every time i am done with qt i throw my bio wheel out and i have one ready at all times in my dt

I like using well cycled non-calcareous bio media in a HOB for QT (bio-balls, ceramic media, large sponges) - they won't absorb much copper and do a fantastic job of keeping ammonia undetectable.
