Quarantine.....A Must?

Greetings All

So is it a must to use a quarantine tank for very hardy fish like Clownfish? Do tank-bred fish have a better chance than wild caught?

I recommend it. I wouldn't do it any other way. I wouldn't want my whole tank infected. My understanding is that wild caught fish are more prone to disease, but the stress from transport for any fish can cause disease.

for tank raised fish I usually QT for about 2 weeks just to make sure they dont have anything. WC fish go in for at least a month.

Definately captive-bred fish are hardier.
Wild anemone fish are prone to any disease, Cryptocaryon, Amyloodinium, Brooklynella, etc...

Even if they are captive-bred quarantine is something very useful, you do not want to take risks for our own health why would you take risks with your fishÃ"šÃ‚´s???.

Clowns seem to be really prone to some nasty ones. I just had a clown die of Amyloodinium in QT. He had been healthy eating and looking great at the time of purchase and I'm so glad I didn't skip the QT process. I'm kicking myself for not being more proactive on treatment with the little guy.

styk.. why do you wait a month if its wild caught? I know ick has a 2 week pieriod that you wont see it then it cycles agian, but what else takes as long? I have a wild caught i got yesterday... its in qt

I wiped out my whole tank once because of an infected fish.. then you have to wait another two months to have fish in your reef agian. def. qt

I have seen too many fish come down with some kind of funk after the 2 week mark. The last pair of Blue Stripe clowns that I had did well for the first 3 weeks and then started rapidly deteriorating after that. Better safe than sorry. A month isnt all that long in the grand scheme of things
