Quarantine Live Rock from Established Fish Store?

What is an established lfs?

No lfs can QT everything for you.

Do you already have fish or an "established" tank with livestock?

If the LR is the first thing you ever have, you may not need to QT.

Otherwise, you will need to QT every drop of water.

I agree with this. 'Established' is a really general term; you'd be best off quarantining it. It's easy insurance to avoid potentially introducing something bad to your aquarium.

What do you do with quarantined rock? Look at it ? Sincere question because I have no idea how you know .. ,"okydoky...it looks good" and then put it in. I have only Live rock and a few fish and plan on one last third delivery of live rock and I have never quarantined the live rock I get because it comes straight from the Atlantic/ holding tank and styro box. Non LFS

Yes, the tank is established with live rock and sand..... The fish store is well known and has a very good reputation....

Keeping it in a quarantine tank allows you to find potential nasties like fire worms, mantis shrimp, flatworms, etc. If you had just thrown the rock into your tank, then you'd have a much harder time eliminating them. It's a small chance for something like that to come in on rock from a LFS, but no sense taking chances, right?

Also, rock straight out of the Atlantic that hasn't had a quarantine period has a much higher risk of introducing nasties into your tank.

Mark, its coming straight out of a LFS established tank....
Guys? Am I not explaining this correctly???? LOL!!
Im going to a fish store, and this particular fish store has been around for 30 years, im putting my hand in one of many reef filled tanks, pulling out the piece(s) i want, bag them, pay for them, and bring them home.... Should I quarantine the rocks before I place them in my established tank??

We understood the question just fine, and my answer at least still stands. It's not just pests you have to worry about, it's parasites and diseases as well. It's ultimately up to you whether you quarantine it, but I'm going to stick by my recommendation to do so.

Thx Flame Angel..... I will check with the local fish store to see if they quarantine successfully...
Thx guys.. Im just trying to get an all around opinion from the experts.. Im fairly new to Salt Water.. Thx Guys!!

Ok...I understand. i filled a tub with salt water and spent half the day fishing out the crabs and such. i got a mantis out later from the tank (pure luck) i guess in a way i did quarantine. Thank you for your answer. I did not do this the first time and it took months to remove a few crabs. advice taken , Thumbs up :)

Wsantos i understand what you are saying as well and have read the entire thread but asking the LFS if they quarantine successfully its like asking a bank robber if he did the crime. you really think they are going to give you the correct answer? you need to worry about a few things like aptasia which are always popular and everywhere in stores. so if you want to spend the next few years or even starting your own thread about "how to get rid of aptasia" then go ahead and just drop the new LR on the tank. best of luck

I bought a frag from a LFS that had 2 zoa eating nudibranches.

I was watching when i noticed them crawl off the rock. Luckily my emerald crab ate them up quickly.
