Quarantine Tank Quick

Hi All,

I have to set something up quick for a couple of fish with Ick.

Can I use a trashcan (15 to 20g)? They are two blue tangs one is 4" and the other is 3"

Also, what do I do for a filter? Is there a specific brand copper that is best?

Thanks for the help as this is my first time dealing with this.

I read somewhere a daily water is important, 20% i think??

You wont get very many responses on here because there is so many threads on this. Especially if you have Ich. Try to use the search button up top.
You could do HYPO or copper
I would go to walmart (hate walmart) and get the biggest tupperware storge containers because they will give the fish more swimming room being horizontal, and they are cheap. I prefer tanks so I can clearly see my fish.
Tangs are sensitive to copper and cupramine is a better form of it. YOU WILL HAVE TO TEST, SIPHON BOTTOM OF CONTAINER, AND DO A PARTIAL WATER CHANGE EVERYDAY.With the cupramine there is only 3 test kits that are accurate, red sea, salfert, and I forget the other one.

You can use a trash can. You need filteration and some live bacteria. No light, as that helps to keep the fish more calm, and prevent parasites from attacking the fish. So, I would do a partial water-change on your current tank and use that water for your quarantine. Put in some live-sand and some rock. Maybe two or three pieces mostly for the live bacteria and some hiding places for the fish. Put in a pump...Korallia, maxijet, rio, something to move the water around. A small filter, hang-on will be fine. Keep an eye on the temperature...don't let it get too cold. Often times people usually need to put a heater in their quarantines, as we do not put light over these tanks.

Seachem cupramine should work ok. Start with a very low-dose first and gradually use a full dose of cupramine if there is no positive response with the lower doses. Unless there is a HUGE outbreak of ich on these fish, I would recommend a more natural way of combatting this parasite first, and save the Copper treatment as a very LAST resort.

Thanks everyone.

RocknReefr the fish only have some spots not a huge amount by any means.

I did some searches but didn't see anything about the type of container or gallon size.

What are the more natural ways. It was a tank move that brought the ich about. I have been feeding good and watching water conditions. The spots have been around for about 2 weeks now.

From what I did read some people say the only way to really get rid of it is with the copper.

Thanks again!
