If this is what I think it is in my qt, then I know where my displaced peppermint shrimp are going. Please confirm if this is aptasia or not.

If you have to dose Co or a harder chem it will wipe the invert pop of the rock and be absorbed by the rock. Plus it gives a place for bad things to hide from the med's. That's what I have always thought, I'm not saying its the correct answer just asking.

I really like the look with the live rock over just pvc pipes or other more sterile media. I sort of consider it another display tank. I like to sit close to my tanks and look for hitch hikers or pests so I want something more pleasing to look at so that task is more enjoyable and feels less like a task. I can stare at a reef tank and become mesmerized for an hour or more. My wife thinks I'm nuts and I probably am.
My DT was aquascaped using homemade aragrocrete and dry rock. I seeded it for bacteria, coraline algae, and "good" hitch hikers (hopefully) using the live rock in the QT and then returned it back. Of course like most of my fellow reefers I want to get another tank in the future and will be able to seed it with the same live rock. I haven't added any fish yet to the DT, but when I do I will use the QT. if I detect any disease or infection I will move the fish to a hospital tank and medicate there.
Sorry for the long answer. Lol

Sounds good man.

What I do with my QT is have some bio media (ceramic rings) I keep in my sump. When I use my QT I toss the rings into an HoB filter for bio filtration. Then if I need to dose any medication I can take it out.

It goes the same way with LR. If you do need to dose anything you can just take the rock out and dose, that way you dont waste the rock but can keep it usable.

If you do remove the bio media to dose just remember to keep an eye on elevated lvls of ammonia/nitrites etc. as they may spike without the bio filtration.
