Quarantine tank

I lost a fish to ich last week and now I'm trying to pick up the pieces and start over. I've been advised to leave the main tank fallow for 4 -6 weeks for the ich to die off. In the meantime I want to get my QT ready for a new fish, but I dont know how to go about bio-filtration for the QT. I'm sure I cant use any sponge filter from the main tank at this time since it would be contaminated with ich. It looks like I cannot get my QT up and running until at least 4 - 6 weeks. Any suggestions? Thanks.

You can setup the new tank = Water, heater, pump, new filter sponges etc. Let it go through a cycle.

1. Add a raw shrimp to the tank as this will start a cycle.

The cycle should be alot shorter than the 6weeks.

Can you borrow anything from an existing tank?
