Quarantine tank

i have a cannister filter and a 75 gal tank i would like to use as a QT tank would this work? and what should be included in a QT tank

A 75 would be a huge pain to use as a QT for most people. Large water changes are often needed during QT and doing 50% water changes every day or two on a 75 would be a pain. If you don't have really huge fish to QT, I'd choose a smaller tank.

I agree with the above posts .. large QT's can be difficult to maintain.

QT size s/b be based on the number and size of the fish. In general a ten gallon tank would handle one or two small fish .. and you move up progressively in tank size based on the number +/or size of the fish.

If your only going to be qting one or two small fish I would just spend $10 and purchase a ten gallon tank .. if you want you can use the canister filter on the ten gallon or perhaps spend another ten bucks an buy a simple HOB powerfilter.

I tend to agree with the above with one caveat.

Obviously, running a small tank will require more attention to detail. It's harder to keep water quality up. I find a 10 gallon a bit too small for any fish.

I keep two. I have a 20 gallon long for smaller fish and a 40 gallon breeder for larger fish. This tends to work well for me.

I think a 75 would be fine if you're OK spending more on water change and equipment for it. I would also be great for large fish such as larger tangs, angels, triggers, etc.

I agree that the 75 gallon would be a bit large, but if you are going to keep large fish then I say its fine. I keep mainly small fish the largest is only about 5" long, but on average my fish are between 2"and 3 1/2" so I use a 20 gallon for qt.

Sorry for the hijack...

Sorry for the hijack...

I want to set up a QT tank (10 gal) for my fish and want to make a list of the items i will need. Im thinking a small filter (but which one) and maybe a maxi jet PH (3-400 gph??). Can some provide me the info/list of items they have on a setup like what im talking about (10-20gal). This tank will get alot of use now since all my fish will be new but i want to keep it small so that it will store away in my shed nicely and all parts will go inside the tank for storage.

thanks,
eddy

Oh, let me know what models of equipment worked for you guys so i can look into the same stuff.

thanks again
