Quarantined Clown

Hello,

I purchased a clownfish 3 weeks ago and its been in the quarantine tank doing well. Eating regularly with no issues hanging out in their piece of pipe within the tank. The first few days it wasn't eating, but I think that's normal. I never added any medications throughout the quarantine period I just keep an eye on the little guy as much as I could. He eats Pellets and Mysis when I drop them in there.

I was wondering if its too early to add him to my tank (First fish) or should I wait a little while longer?

I have always been told to quarantine for at least 4-6 weeks some people even go 8. The incubation period of marine ich and some other common diseases is about 28 days so you may not see anything wrong with the fish until then. While it isn't necessary I always treat all my fish with an ich medicine whether I can see anything or not. Just my 2 cents

I personally would go another 4 weeks. I would suggest at least using some prazipro for flukes and look into the TTM (Tank transfer method) for ich. There is a sticky above the big red arrow on the forum page. Good luck

+1, I use the tank transfer method with Prazipro followed by 6 weeks of quarantine on all new fish. If you are simply going to quarantine in a single tank then I would go eight weeks with at least one Prazipro treatment

Thanks so much for your help guys!!

I got that PraziPro sitting in my Medicine Drawer, I'll throw some in there!.

According to this article http://www.ultimatereef.com/articles/brooklynella/ a 90% confidence interval (of a fish being disease free) is achieved with 6 weeks quarantine. I've read that statistic elsewhere also, though I can't remember where. I like it because it gives me an idea of where I stand...if I quit at 6 weeks, I'm probably pretty good (understanding that 100% confidence is not achievable)

It's hard to find threads where someone is complaining that they quarantined too long. Some say 8 weeks is overkill...better safe...

The article I referenced above states 10+ weeks for a 95% CI. I wish they had listed their references.
