Quarantined fish death

Hey guys.. I want some advice.. We set up a 10 gal QT tank 6 weeks ago. Added 2 fish to it, a clown and a tomini tang. We observed for 2 weeks with no meds. Then noticed weird black spots on the tomini so I treated with Paraguard for 3 weeks. We did religious 2-3 gallon water changes every other day and tested water parameters like crazy. Everything was fine. The tomini tang ate in the morning and then died several hours later. This was on the last day of Paraguard treatment with no sign of illness before. Two days later, the clown died. I have no idea what could have caused their deaths since all water parameters were good. I had to change the salt last week bc my store was out of the usual type I buy. Could the change in salt have killed them?? After 5 weeks in QT, I thought everything would be fine. Now I'm devastated. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks everyone.

Salt change would not do it. What were your actual water parameters? Describe appearance and behavior. Source of fish? I am not a believer in Paraguard for marine tanks.

Quarantined fish death

Ph 8.1
Ammonia 0
Nitrites 0
Nitrates < 1
Phosphates 0
Salinity 1.024
Temperature 78
Both fish were eating the same day they died. The clown fish was trying to get air at top, and started laying flat on bottom of tank. Tomini just died. Never saw any signs of illness. Found it dead on the powerhead :(

What do you use for QT if not paraguard?

i use prazipro

I have that too but haven't used it. We had a terrible set back in our DT when a new fish brought brook in and it killed all the fish. Hence the new QT tank. But with this set back I'm devastated again. Both fish were doing great until all of a sudden they weren't.
With prazipro, do u do only 1 treatment and then QT for 3 weeks?
I really want to use a medication that will kill brook in case it ever shows up again in another fish.

Prazipro is easy.
Do 2 treatments. I do 3 sometimes.
7 days, then large water change, then 7 more days

I TTM for 12 days prior to treatment with the prazi so that I am confident of no ich. I treat once and then observe for another 3 weeks. Should something arise or pop up needing attention then I address that with further treatment and extend the QT period.

I'm sorry, but what is TTM?

tank transfer method. Basically swapping the fish into a different tank/bucket with every 3 days so to get around the ich life cycle. There are detailed writeups on here to review on it.

I would look into the source of the fish and use another testing kit.

Also, 10G to QT a tang seems way too small. You can get a 20G breeder or even a 40 from Petco now. They have the $1 per gallon sale going on again. I grabbed myself a 40 for QT.

Another tip: my LFS guy told me he used metroplex and focus to treat food whenever he adds new fish to his home tank and had never lost any new fish. He encouraged me to try it out because I told him I lost a flame angle in the first week. Haven't tried it yet but I added the medication to my collection and will give it a go this weekend.

Hey everyone.. Figured out we must have somehow accidentally cross contaminated the Brookynella infected DT water and the QT tank water.

But now I have a new question?
I saved the fish using Mardel Quick Cure... But the treatment says to use for a maximum of 3 days, and then do a 25% water change 24 hrs after last treatment and add carbon.. But then nothing else...

Anybody have ANY clue what I do AFTER that? Would the 3 days of formalin have killed the brook completely?? I'm so worried to stop treatment, but I know formalin can be toxic. Please help!

I agree but precede tank transfer with a formalin dip.
