Quarantining Gobies?

I am wanting to introduce a Diamond Back Goby into my tank. I would ideally like to quarantine it for the 4 weeks but without sand will a Diamond Back starve? Even if I put a little sand in a bucket in the QT tank I don't think new sand will have enough "œfood" in it and I feel adding sand will defeat the purpose of QTing???

Also I was thinking of a Mandarin Goby and have basically the same question on how to feed it in the QT?

Both the Diamond Back and Mandarin rely on food sources that don't exist in the QT. Can you give me some recommendations or experiences? Are there ways to feed these two fish and keep them alive during a 4 week quarantine time..... or do people just take the chance and add them to the display tank?

Only buy them if they are eating prepared food in the store. Watch them eat. Ask what the food is, and buy some of that to feed them.

This was a concern of mine when I got my Tiger Watchman. It turns out that he eats anything I drop in the tank so going without sand during QT was not an issue. If you can buy locally go with what was suggested above so you have the ability to feed other food until you can get him in the tank with sand. My watchman was grabbing sand within seconds of hitting the DT but still aggressively feeds on prepared food as well which is nice to know he is definitely getting something.

ive had two so far... I usually add some extra sand just for them to munch on... But I start them off with sinking pellets...

They both eventually swam up and eat everything, but they got the concept of singing pellets much quicker.
