quarentine tank. what do u use?

I just bought a aqeoun 20 gallon tank complete setup with canopy builtin cheap tube light filter heater net food biowheel. For 60 bucks. I intend to use it for a quarentine tank.

Was this a good choice? I had a 2.5 gallon glass open top container available but no heater or light for it. It need to treat at least one fish for ich but may eventually need to do others. Also needed a quarentine tank for future use. I've been dumb and lazy by not using one for the couple of fish we have. Or coral or anything I've bought for tank.

Thanks for advice or tips or alternative suggestions.

If you intend to only use meds for your treatment then all you need is what you have. The only thing is you need to make sure you monitor ammonia and copper with the correct tests if you are using copper to treat the ich. Also if the fish was in your display tank with others you need to treat all of the fish as well as leave the tank fallow for at least 72 days to cause the ICH in the tank to die off. Leaving the others in there will result in the ICH having hosts and surviving.

If you use Cupramine you cannot use Prime so you will have to carefully monitor the ammonia levels which you need to ensure you have the correct test for. Cupramine is copper bound to organic matter from what I have read; thus, certain tests will read an ammonia level that is not correct due to the Cupramine being in the water. The badge things I believe are one of the best options when using Cupramine.

Just wanted to throw that out there because I have no idea what you have on hand in terms of tests or what your intended treatment is.

Sorry, didn't finish answering the what do you use...

I use tank transfer so I have two 10 gallon of the same basic systems (tank, hood, cheap lights, HOB, heater, and I have an air pump I usually use too). I use these for the transfers so it is less water as well as the PraziPro I treat can be smaller amounts used during the transfers when it goes in as well.

I then have a 20 gallon of the same setup for the post tank transfer to hold them in after to observe for a bit.

i use to have a 20 long, thought is was to small, ended picking up 75 reef ready setup for dirt, just has pvc stand for corals, some pipe for fish to hide, i used the sump and protein skimmer, and a single 250 mh light, and a heater. and a few power heads , simple setup.

I've seen references to using buckets, which seems more practical for sterilizing (like for TTM). I might try that.

And not as heavy as well as easier to store since you can stack when not using them.

I like to be able to see from the side when I have fish come in so I was worried the bucket/tote thing would drive me crazy from not being able to see them well. They definitely have their benefit though!

Thank you for all the input. I guess I made a decent decision on an affordable tank that has all the necessary items. I don't have any pvc to put in qt yet.

I have ich x. I didn't want to use copper, feel safer with ich x. My DT is only 50. Theres no way I want anything bigger than 20...

I read about the buck transfer but I like the idea to be able to see them. I thought feeding and waste and spikes are more of a worry for the duration. I was unsure of the lighting of the aqeon also. When quarenting coral in future...is that necessary or is just a simple coral dip solution OK then when that instructions on that product are complete...move coral to the DT?

I need to setup the system in next hour or so....I'm actually now unsure where to put the aqeon tank, I don't counter space for it and that that I realize the weight with water...I can't just put it on anything that isn't solid. I'll probably have to do it on floor.

I keep the 20 gallon on the floor of a bedroom that is rarely in. This allows me to keep it dark as well as fairly quiet. The 10 gallons I use for the tank transfers though sit up off the floor. If you are going to keep it on the floor for new fish you are going to have to be very careful as far as scaring them. I have three kids and two danes so there is no way it could have been on the floor in the common area.

I have both 10g and 20g TTM setups, and a 40b for long term observation.
I can use whatever size TTM is most suitable and the 40B stays cycled until my tanks are fully stocked.

I have 20 gallon long and a 40 gallon breeder. It depends on what size fish I purchased or how many I purchased, determines which one I use

I had no idea that quarentine and hospital tanks were so complex and difficult....I've seen online little hang on tiny setups that you can use for quarentine or treatment....and i figured a spacious 20 would be perfect and shouldn't get dirty quick.

I just killed my baby nemo yesterday. I'm not sure if it was medicine dosage or I didn't change water fast enough....or if he was just so tiny he couldn't handle it. My big clown looked terrible in the 20 aqueon and when I saw the other baby one was dead I moved him back to main tank. I used dose on ich x as indicated....for 20 gallon tank.

I probably have 20 gallons of contaminated water...A 20 gallon tank I don't really like and its going to be a lot of work to start over on it. I don't have my RODI yet, or salt mix...I've already made so many trips across town for water...I'm thinking that my big clown is going to have to suffice with the meds he did get in 2 days...

The sickness was not expected. I took pics with my dslr and I can't upload them, maybe files are too big. I need someone to see it..incase its not even ich. No other fish is sick or has white. (I've had 4 other fish and have not made a purchase in 2/3 weeks. ) I sort of thought I saw some whitish on the baby clown which is why I moved him with his big bro, and I end up killing him. It really sucks knowing I messed up.

Maybe next week will bring better news. I'm falling behind on life. This hobby is so hard because when things aren't going perfect, problems can happen at tough times. Every problem is harder when you have a 1 year old and your disabled..and I lose time with her every time new stuff pops out. I should have gotten buckets and followed that exact setup. I don't even have a heater that works well. The one that came with aqeon is junk becasuse it doesn't set to a temp only has a range of low to high...and then temperature gauge is a sticker which is junk I don't have an extra one here..and the filtration was junk. The cover doesn't fit snug without cutting into it.

Thanks for all the info and help everyone.
