Quarrantine tank question

Thought I'd stop pushing my luck and set up a quarrantine tank for new arrivals. I'm thinking 20 gallon, heater, some PVC tubes for hiding and a HOB filter. I'll use water from my sump when I get new arrivals to fill it with. Any suggestions on a cheap Filter that would work for this purpose? Thanks

Quarrantine tank question

Do you have fish in dt now?

I use a aquaclear 70 for my 20 qt.

I keep a new filter sponge in my baffles to load it up with bacteria. Takes about 6 weeks. That way I can setup a qt at will and not have to have it cycle.

I made a diy version for my qt.
consists of a empty dvd holder(50ct) w a bunch if small holes,a maxi jet 600, and some filter floss media.works great, low wattage and moves allot of water.

I use a sponge filter for my quarantine tanks.
I keep new sponges in the sump at all times.
When I need to quarantine, I fill the quarantine/ treatment tank with new mixed water, add a "seasoned" sponge and voila- instant bio filter.
After quarantine,
throw out the sponge, drain and rinse the quarantine tank, place new sponge in the sump.
Sponges cost less than $10 each up at Aqua Hut in ?Coram? I can never keep Coram, Selden, Centereach straight......
Good Luck,
Brian

Thanks guys. I do have fish in the DT now, looking to get some new ones, and though I've never had ich or any other fish ills, I figured its time to play it safe for once. the aquaclear 70 looks good, you can use ur own carbon instead of having to buy their own indiv carbon packets each time. Off to petco, hope they have tanks left!

Still plenty of tanks left at Petco in Patchogue, I think todays the last day of the sale. Ended up getting a 40 gallon breeder for the heck of it as well, may set up a frag tank. Cant pass up the deal.
