Queen Angel Eye Twitching/Blind?

Good Afternoon All,

I recently purchased a Queen Angel that is about 3.5" Changing/Adult stage. The fish looked quite healthy and was round at the time of purchase. Since then (2 weeks ago) it has become apparent that the fish my have some eye trouble. It is currently in a 30QT tank that contains LR/LS. (I have a 15g for Med QT treatment if needed).

The fish seems to bump into everything as though it can't see. Also, on occasion, its eyes dart back and forth as if something is wrong. There is a tiny bit of fin rot, but not much. No Pop eye or clowdy eyes. They are completely clear. The fish has gotten more thin and seems to not eat when fed food. However, I continue to place algae sheets near the fish and the food is gone in the morning. (There are other algae eating fish in the QT but I don't believe it is them eating in such large quantities of nori).

Anyone with ideas or advice on this situation would be of great help.

Thank you in advance.

Do you know 100% it is eating? If it is getting thinner and eating it might be something internal. Have you tried some selcon or other vitamins to improve health?

I have been using vitamins, garlic and using all variations of food. Nori, Formula 1/2, mysis shrimp, live brine shrimp, flakes, pellets and frozen formula angel. I haven't been able to actually see her eat, but the algae seems to be gone a few hours after placing it in the tank. Do you think she would still be alive after 2 weeks if she wasn't eating something? Any suggestions on a med treatment that might help would be great.

Thank you.

Yes, it could go for 2 weeks if the fish started off healthly. I had a tang do that to me when I first introduced it into the main display. It appears that you are doing everthing alright, just keep the water very clean, maybe water changes every other day.

Might also try rubbing the nori with your fingers in the water to make smaller flakes to get them to start eating. Some of the flakes should pass right by the fish, hopefully they will eat it.

I have done that before and it has worked.

Good luck.

If the fish is twitching..IE:Shaking his head back and forth he prob has flukes as this is a sure sign.Internal parasites could be the reason for the fish eating but staying thin. Both of these problems can be taken care of with a qt and some praziquental.Prazipro is a good product.HTH Kieth
