Quesitons about Tusk Fish

We have a 240 g. FOWLR tank. we are purchasing a 9" long Australian Tusk Fish and he will be in quarantine for 4 wks. the largest tank I have for Q. is a 29 g. Will he go nuts in there? I have many sizes of PVC tubing (some 4") for him to hide in and among.

Also, does anyone have this fish and how often do you feed it? I am planning on continuing to feed a wide variety of (mostly frozen) foods but will introduce large frozen krill especially for the tusk. Scott Michael says to feed these 3 x per day, which I actually do now with my other fish. But I was wondering if he will be okay with once a day when we are on vacation for 10 days.

The tusk will be in with a 10" blonde naso, a juv. emporer angel, an adult sailfin tang , a dragon wrasse (sm) and a foxface. Also 3 threadfin cardinals, a blackcap basslet and a lawnmower blenny.

any opinions would be appreciated, thanks.

IMO, a 29 is going to be way to small to QT this fish. Where are you getting it from? If it is from an established tank, kept long-term by a hobbyist, you can perhaps add it to your tank without a QT. I know this is not really generally advisable, but I think a 29 gallon tank will be very stressful for this fish.

Can you pay a hobbyist friend or LFS to QT it for you in a larger tank (55 or 75 gallon)?

Once a day feeding will be fine.

Tusks are great fish, see this recent thread for more information:

Okay, thanks for the advice---I will see how he does for a few days in the Q tank. I plan to keep him under dim lights and possibly cover the tank. If it does not go well I'll either go ahead and put him in the 240 or see if someone I know has a larger Q tank.
