Question about AEFW and Frag Tank..

Reef1589

Anemones for life
im currently setting up a 40B Peninsula SPS dominated build..

now under the tank is gonna be a 20L sump, and along with that there will be a 10g Plumbed onto the tank...

this 10g will be used for cutting frags, as well as where ill put new corals to sit after a week (after being dipped and what not)

say I get a Maricultered piece, dip it, kill any AEFW on it, but didn't kill the eggs that were unseen.. they hatch.. (obviously infest my 10g frag tank)

(my plan is to use this 10g as a Frag/QT spot.. where ill be able to view the corals, and they would sit in there as long as needed before being put into the DT... and after multiple dips if needed, in a separate container)

will the AEFW stay in the 10g, or would they eventually work their way up into the DT through plumbing..

Any feed back is appreciated, Thank you

over time they will probably will get in if you baste corals. If you want to try it keep a low flow circulating from qt to tank. If possible a filter sock to catch any that would go to main tank in the current. Also put a few wrasses in the main display. U should be more concerned about red bugs as they have a better chance to be in the water column.

I tried to do what you are saying as I was buying a lot of corals and Qt was not big enough. I did not get flat worms in the display and did not see any on the maricultured corals that were coming in this time. My issue was red bugs. I did not bomb tank as I had hundreds of acro crabs. Red bugs got worse and I ended up pulling all remaining colonies from display and QT for another month. Lost a lot of coral and was a huge headache.

do you guys think if I put a filter sock on the 10G that was circulating into the sump, it would Minimaze the chance of a possible outbreak... from 1 tank to the other,

I mean I guess I knew that they do travel in the water current, I was just kind of looking for idea's or opinions on what people do for their setups..

is your SPS QT tank completely separate from your Main system?

My QT tank is separate it is a pain in the butt as I have to keep up adding alk and water, but is the safest and best way. my QT is about 120 gallons.

If I were you this is what you should do just keep perimeters stable
