question about diy sump

I have a 55g long with a standard aga stand. I have decided that i want to build a sump, is a 20g long a good choice? also will it fit in the stand without any modifications since I would prefer not to have to take down my tank to set up the sump. Also does anyone possibly have any blueprints or some good info on how to set up a diy sump. I am on a budget and the acrilic sumps taht are prebuilt are out of the question as they seem to be very expensive. I am new to all this so any information about sumps is greatly appreciated.Also my tank is not drillled so I will have to get an overflow box, I have found some good prices for these just not sure what size I might need Thanks in advance

do a dry run with the 20L make sure it fits and all your equipment fits.

A 20 gallon long is what I use on my 55 gallon there quite simple to set up. This is a nice overflow. http://www.lifereef.com/frame.html Click on Pre filter boxes.

was you r stand able to hold the 20 l without modifications. The braces in my stand are only 10 in apart and the 20 l is 30 x 12 x 12, maybe building it myself out of acrilic is a better option although i have not been able to find any blueprints for one yet.

I built my own stand that would hold the the 20l, this was cheaper than building a sump out of acrylic.
