Question about DT Phytoplankton

I have a bottle that's past the expiration date. I was wondering if I use this bottle if there would be any harmful effects on my reef tank. I've been told that regardless of live or dead, the phytoplankton will be consumed by the fishes (like that Kent stuff which is not live). I've been using it for weeks and there hasn't been any negative effects but I figured I should ask to be on the safe side.
Thanks.

fish don't consume phyto plankton, they are not filter feeders. dead phyto will probably be taken in by some zoo plankton (pods)...maybe by some feather dusters and other filter feeders in your tank, but is probably not utilized 100%. the only way to really tell is to smell it. if it smells utterly bad, then its probably not good to use.

ok, well mine stinks like hell but it's always smelled from the first day I bought it and it wasn't expired then.

Check out Bergovoy's thread on pods and Phyto. He will prob have an answer for you on how useful the sulpher smelling DT's is as he will be calling DT's to find out what they have to say.

ok, it's outta here. Might as well pay $20 for another bottle then crash my whole system. Thanks.
