Question about evening hours and lights

So we just set up a tank a work and got our first fish and coral in. However, after I told someone to flip the light on at work and they sent me a picture, the coral was already out. So I asked what time the office lights come on and they said they stay on all night. Ugh. So what should I do? Cover the tank with a sheet? Try to convince the owner to shut the lights off at night although i highly doubt this will happen? Any thoughts are appreciated.

What type of coral are we talking about here?

Is the tank lit independently from the office (I presume ceiling) lights?

Currently running a black box over the tank. Coral only consists of a toadstool. And in terms of office lights, ceiling lights are what I am talking about.

Even if more coral is added. I do know that when my coworker came in, the polyps were fully extended. The tank also gets hit by natural sunlight via windows.

That will cause algae issues more than anything.

I'm not aware of what happens long term to corals exposed to constant light
I suspect they will probably be fine..

There are multiple stores around here with tanks that get sunlight that are fine. I am not to worried about it. I guess i should say there are windows in the room, the sun never shines directly into it. I am not asking about algae, just health of coral in respect to constant light.

Ah this is what you said. " The tank also gets hit by natural sunlight" as in you will get direct sunlight on the tank which will cause algae issues. I'm sure your LFS has people that clean the tank daily so it would be a none issue. As long as your doing the same shouldn't matter in your case either.

As mcgyvr said no idea on the long term with constant light but might be fine.

Yeah sorry, should have been more specific. After I saw what you said I realized I made it sound like the sun shines right through the window on the tank. Thanks for the concern though.
