question about gbt

i had a gbta for about 2 months was doing great ,then it went on the move no big deal ,truned lights out and all pumps off but the closed loop ,gbta swelled up like a beach ball got in the rocks in a new spot and looked ok , got up the next morn to find bits of gbta all over the tank ,like it exploded...any thoughts as to what might have happened ?

no has fine mesh and the gbta was about 6to8 inchs when open
