Question About Hosetail Barbs

So I'm putting 2 Vecton V2 600 25 watt UV's on each return of a 125 so I can maintain decent flow and filter all water through the UV's. They come with hosetail barbs that start at a 1/2 inch and go all the way to 1.25 inch. I need the 1 inch connection, so should I cut off the smaller parts of the hosetail so they don't restrict water flow?

I've never used hosetail barbs before. I usually just use the direct size barb I need, but this is what the UV's come with. Thanks

I would second that...it will create drastic back pressure and restrictions in your plumbing otherwise

Thanks for the advice. Much appreciated. I didn't know if they were supposed to be cut because the remaining 1 inch section may not provide enough room for a hose clamp. That was my concern.
