Question about Ich & UV

HOw effective would a uv be when added to my tank which has a Ich out break? All fish are acting fine and eating great....for now. My plan is to watch them and let the UV do it's thing for a week or so and see if the ich diminishes.

Am I crazy ....or should I just take the fish out now and hypo them?

you are crazy.. j/k...

UV's are interesting. I do not have one and some people swear by them other do not. I believe that they help but do not kill all the parasites, the parasites have to go under the UV light for it to be effective.

Hypo is not the only way but a good way and if I were you, personally, I would choose to treat the fish with hypo and a leave the main tank fallow.

remember the ich will more then likly subside, as the larger parasites complete their lifecycle and fall off the fish into your tank to reproduce. Don't let that fool you into think they are getting better. I believe the life span is ~2 weeks on the fish then they will look better, then they will be reinfected.

well im gonna add the uv reguardless........im just not looking forward to trying to catch the lil buggers

Yeah, QT to begin with and you won't have to worry about any ich getting into your main display.
