question about ich?

sooo recently i got an ich outbreak because i didnt qt a fish before putting in my 55 gallon tank... terrible move.... i definately learned my lesson. :mad2:

the fish i have are still alive, with the acception of the one that originally had ich and brougt it into my tank. the rest of the fish are in a couple hospital tanks which i am treating with rid ich
(which is working amazingly). i'm doing daily water changes in the hospital tanks, and weekly in my big 55 gallon fish tank.

in the 55 gallon fish tank i left the live rock, live sand, a few feather dusters, a cleaner shrimp, around 40 assorted snails, and a sally lightfoot crab... im not treating that tank because the feather dusters and bacteria on the rock will die i was told and it is on the back of the bottle too.

how long will i have to leave the fish out of the 55 gallon... its around 6-8 weeks right? i just want to make sure so that i know when to put them back in without doing it too early.

also... will the crab, feather dusters, and shrimp be ok... they cant get ich right?

just want to make sure i'm doing things right :rolleye1: dumb ich...

thanks for your help in advanced!

6-8 weeks is correct.

the crabs and such can carry ich but the ich will still die off because the crabs won't hoast it.

sounds like you doing everything right.

awesome... thanks! so im gonna wait 8 weeks just to be safe...

one more question.. (sorry) how long should i treat the fish? none of them have any more spots so should i keep on treating them to be safe or should i stop treatment? on the bottle it says to continue treatment for 3 days after any visible signs... i might do it like a week after? does anyone hav e any experience with rid ich that could tell me how long they treated their fish for?

hmmm ok thanks anyways... =] just as an fyi rid ich is working really well... its a combination of malachite green and formalin which is working really well together against ich.

im somewhat new to bigger salt tanks.. i had a small 13 gallon with just a pair of clownfish in it to start out with and just recently got the 55 gallon... like a few months ago... so ive never really run into ich before. the guy at the petstore sold me the rid ich and helped me out a lot... i told him i didnt really wanna mess around with hypo or copper because copper is tough on the fish ive heard and hypo... well... id be nervous i wouldnt get the right salt amount and kill the fish :-X no good...

but thank you so much for your help! ive been meaning to post those questions for a while but never got around to it till now... so thank you so much for taking the time to answer them!

I've only used RidIch in baths--not as a continuous treatment. I would tend to stick to the directions on the bottle, although do some research on the lifecycle of ich. You may gain some insight into how long it takes for them to go from cysts to attachment to new cysts. I would probably treat to cover that lifecycle, plus a day or two, but watch the fish closely for signs of distress.

Also, remember that the RicIch has killed/is killing your biofilter in your hospital tank, so keep a close eye on ammonia levels and change water accordingly.
