question about ick

How long does a fish take after being put in the tan to develop the white spots. I bought a coral beauty angelfish almost a week ago and I just noticed white spots today.
Thanks, Drew

There is no answer to that question. Can happen any time if there is ick present in the tank and a fish gets stressed. Once in the tank, you have a few different options. My preferred method is not to take the tank apart to enable removing the fish to QT, believing that would stress the fish unreasonably more. Rather, I use a mix of frozen food (either Rod's or M.Y.S.I.S.) with Seachem's Focus and Metronidazole.

My recipe is an adaptation of Seachem's and has worked well, esp in combination with UV (but also worked without). Several others are having luck with that too.

If you search my name, and the words "metronidazole" "focus" and "recipe" you will find a couple relevant threads.

Since nobody has yet replied, I feel I must.

Do your research before following civicss1's advice. I have no reason to doubt that he used this method or that it worked. I have ample reason to suggest caution to anyone attempting to repeat his good fortune.

ostrow,

i attempted the search and came up empty handed. could you pm or email me the receipe. it would be greatly appreciated. thanks jen

i prefer QT. I think its the only way to remove the parasite from the entire tank and not worry about future livestock risk, that is if you QT future live stock. I just finished an epic battle with ich and in the end was forced to QT. Now everything is happy.

Goodluck
