Question about Monti's?

Yes I know there isn't a coral patent name for corals. But what happens here,is the name changes on these guys.It has happen to me.Where I thought it was a different coral I was getting. And it end up being the SAME coral.Just because the names where changed. This can up being a bad thing, when buying corals.

First of all, if you like a coral don't worry about the name! These are not Gucci handbags... somewhere there are Volkswagen size colonies of these corals, and many corals appear similar yet have subtle and sometimes striking differences. Case in point is the Superman... I have a few pieces of the original and some "Superboys"... beautiful encrusting montis but have never attained the beauty of that particular strain that showed up years ago... of course there is more out there in the ocean, but an easy way is being able to trace the heritage as I could do with the Superman...

Should you care about a name for the name's sake or the heritage for heritage's sake? No, it's simply a means of being able to know you have a piece of that wonderful unique coral that was imported... Again I have had and still have numerous green polyp purple base montis, but this "Hulk" stood out and is the only one I gave a name... Some people are against naming... no big deal... it's all good...

While names are thrown around quite a bit, the true unique ones stick and carry on being popular through the years... it's just neat after so many years in the hobby to see something new and unique... but with that said, click in my gallery and in my pics you'll see I love things like standard caps and green slimer!

The thing we all share that nobody could argue is our mutual appreciation for these gems that Mother Nature created... What a beautiful hobby we have...:)
