question about open brain

I have a green and red open brain coral - I have had it approx 1 week. I want to spot feed but I can't ever get it to take hold of food. I have only seen feelers around the mouth or rim of the brain once. I have tried to lightly squirt brine shrimp but they don't stick. I have also tried to place pieces of shrimp on or around the mouth after the lights out but they don't stick either. With moonlights on I can see what looks like spider web looking "strings" coming off the back of the brain. Are those feelers??
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks

Have you cut water flow for a little to the tank?

For mine - I have it in a low-flow area - but I will often cut all but one water movement source to the tank.
Then I'll drop food from above onto it, generally after lights out [seems to open faster for food then] ... and give it 10 minutes to suck it in [or longer] before turning pumps back on.

No I hadn't tried that. Thanks for the idea. Do you know if those web like feelers that shoot out from the coral grab food??

When I spot feed mine I use a clean 2-litter bottle with the bottom cut out. I place the bottle over the coral. If it moves you have weight it down with something. I then add the food through the top with a turkey baster. This way the food settles on the coral. The fish can't get to it and the currents won't wash it away. Then just set back and watch it suck in the food.

Cheers!

Their feeding tenticles come out after the lights go out and border their mouth. My brain's feeders are about 1/4" long and have little balls on the end of each one.

Re: question about open brain

I tried the 2liter thing and it works ok but the food kept falling off to the sides. What I did a couple of days ago was float the brain in a small bowl and feed him like that, any food that spilled off I would grab and put it on its mouth. It worked well since the water was very shallow and no current or fish to bother it.

I just get close to the brain with the turkey baster and squirt in sinking pellets, some float away but it get's eaten by the fish. Otherwise most of the food remains in the brain.

We've had an open brain for over a year now, and we just barely spotted the feeding tentacles! It does seem to use slime to hold onto and bring food to its mouth though! We have to turn off the power heads when we feed too, or the food gets blown off, we also have to fight the hermit crabs off too, they'd like to take advantage of the food that's just "sitting" there!
Good luck!
