It is better than tap water but ideally you want also a De-Ionization cartridge after the RO membrane.
Some regular RO only systems have a membrane that will remove only 90 % of the impurities leaving the other 10 % to be removed by the DI cartridge. This will shorten the life of the cartridge 10 fold as more efficient units will remove 98 to 99% of impurities so only 1 or 2% is left to the DI to remove thus the cartridge life gets extended proportionally.
Mebo - if you already have a home drinking water system it can be retrofitted. If you are in the market for a new system, it would be more cost effective and better all-around to start with a system configured for reef tank.
Reason i was asking was because someone offered me their home system cheap, but at the same timeI found a whole RO/DI unit for a little more so was seeing.
