Question about Royal Gramma Basslet behavior

My Royal Gramma Basslet for the last few days has been digging a cave under my base rock. Is this a normal behavior? Thanks for your help

They'll excavate out from under the rocks if they haven't found a suitable hole. Quite normal. Also, try and avoid similar looking fish that use the same areas of the tank... Bicolor Blennies for example unless you have a large tank.

Good Luck

agree, totally normal behavior...beautiful fish but as mentioned they become insane around others and similar...

Ha ha...so true. Mine is pretty well behaved but loves to chase my blue chromis if he gets too close to his territory.

But fortunately, the territory they protect is relatively small. But insane seems to be an appropriate word. :spin1:

They can be insane, yes. I swear they're tiny psychos.
I know they do really like to be in burrows or near the sandbed. It's cute.

I have a set of barnacles and mine sleeps upside down in one. Maybe something to look into if you can gahold of some.

Mine hasn't dug any but it did chase the new firefish right out of the tank, amazing it fit thru the tiniest gap in the lid

I had always heard that you could pair or keep trios of royal grammas...is this more the exception than the rule?

If its possible, how large of a tank would one need to keep a trio?

Royal Grammas can do the weirdest things. This is probably normal. mine sleeps upside down in a rock arch. It chases away my firefish if it gets too close, besides that they get along. Royal grammas have quite the attitude.
