question about sand beds

I just bought an aquapod 12 and i am going to set it up this week. I decided to use a fine white sand I found. It looks like sugar just a little taner. I have a 38 gal fowlr that i am taking down. some of my live rock from that is going to my aquapod. I thought I would put a few cups of my crushed coral from my 38 and put on the bottom of my 12 and then put the sand on top of that. does this sound good so far. the dumb question I wanted to ask is when i do water changes in my 12 with sand should I stir up the sand and suck stuff out or just leave it alone and suck water out. Also I think i am going to put some corals in my 12. this will be my first attempt with corals. does anyone have suggestions on good hardy corals that also look cool. I guess pretty much all corals look cool though. thanks people

no need for the sand
the lr will do the job of establishing the sand
when u do water changes dont stir up the sandbed
alot of people say that it will cause a mini-cycle in the SB so i guess thats a bad thing

Don't stir up the sand. As far as good begginer corals, waving hand anthelia and pulsing Xenia are great but I warn you, you will have to frag both every month or two they grow as fast as weeds and spread like them too good luck
