question about skimming

i have my euro skimmer setup in my tank for about 5 days now and its been pulling some nasty stuff out.heres the question when it was doing good my filter sock was off the return comming from my fish tank (i like to use it to queit the water comming into the sump from the tank).now that i put it back on my skimmer is not pulling the junk like it did when the sock was off,could that be the filter sock is catching all the junk from the tank or the skimmer removed all the junk from the tank and there is nothing to remove now.

my filter sock catches a bunch of junk that would run through the skimmer if it was not on , , it most likely has something to do with it

I run both and can tell a difference if one of them is not working. If I have to take off the sock for a few days I can tell that the water isnt as clear when I do have it on. For me it will be filter sock+skimmer. The filter sock is only going to help them skimmer do better.
