Question about Tank transfer method tank size

I had a sick fish in my reef tank and lost a couple of my smaller fish and several or my more established fish are showing signs and have me worried about massive losses. I'm ready to bit the bullet and pull my fish out for 72 days. When I pull them out I want to do the tank transfer method. I'm planning on buying 2 20 gallons to use. Will 20 gallons be enough for the 4 three day sessions on each transfer? The 50 gallons are a bit out of budget and I don't have a place to fit them. Also will the melanarus wrasse be ok during the 12 day transfer period without sand?

4 inch yellow tang
3 inch foxface
3 inch hippo
2 percula clowns
Small flame hawk
Small lyretail anthias
3 inch flame angel
3 inch melanarus wrasse

Hmm. That's a lot of fish to TTM all at once, not to mention the amount of water you will be making and dumping at each transfer. Is it possible to set up a "holding tank" to hold your fish and get (2) 10 gallon tanks to TTM, then after Group 1 goes through TTM, you have an additional QT for them to go in? Then do Group 2 TTM. I have only done a max of 3 fish in TTM but others may have had success with more.

Well I ended up buying a 20 and a 40 because that was all I could get in the store. My hope is that I can use those two for the TTM and after the last round of transfers the 40 will be used to hold the fish for the remainder of the fallow period on the display tank. I think I would need 5 tanks to do what you are talking about. Not really possible for me.

Question about Tank transfer method tank size

I have had a similar experience with ich in my big DT (even though I QT everything, ich still got through). I ended up doing TTM on all fish at once. This included 5 Tangs, 1 Rabbitfish, 15 Anthias, 7 Chromis, 1 Goby, and a few others. I ended up changing my water every 48-60 hours instead of 72h and I did one extra transfer, for a total of 4 transfers to get to the 12 days. I used several tubs, a couple of 35g and a couple of 20g tanks. You will use a lot more water, but I was more confident that the water would be a little cleaner with transferring more often.

Any reason I can't use stressguard during the transfer process? Thought it might help with the ammonia and fish stress.

I have no experience with Stressguard, but I have used Ammolock for the ammonia concern. Perhaps there are others that have experience?
