Question about the 3rd part of the 2 part!

I have a 280 reef with tons of clams and some good size sps colonies. I don't use a Ca reactor and my kalk auto top off is dead as of last week(new system on order). I've been using 16-20oz of the first 2 parts and maybe 6oz of the Mg part everyday to keep in spec. My question is on the third part. I understand sulfate can build up. Would I be better off using a commercial Mg product to maintain Mg? I am concerned about throwing the balance out of whack. Thanks Steve

I discuss these issues at length in the February Reefkeeping. The issue is that if you use a commercial supplement for magnesium, then sulfate will become depleted due to all the chloride additions from the calcium chloride.

How are you deciding how much of Part 3 to add? It sounds like you are adding much more than I recommended.

I using enough to keep the tank at about 1300 ppm.

I think I just saw Mg Chloride at my local HD. Will this suffice?
