Question about the newer MP 40's

In no way did I start this thread to create controversy, or debate over which pump is better.
IMO the design is revolutionary and I want to use one sooo bad.

Back when the MP40's were fairly new, I bought a pair and used them on my tank for about a month.
When I first got them, it was like I was 12 again and it was Christmas morning and that new bike was under the Christmas tree.
However over the next few days I started hearing the pumps ramp up, then down, over and over and over.
Once I heard the sound, I could not ignore it.
My tank is pretty darn quiet and so is my house. So they went in a trade for another very popular circulation pump.

My question is, are the newer models quieter than the originals?

How old are your mp-40's? I just picked up two MP40s here on the forum which I haven't had a chance to get them up and get them running but just curious about it the noise. Thanks!

I mentioned in the first post that they are gone.

Noise is a relative thing.
One persons loud noise is anothers whisper.

I'm curious about new ones.

They are awesome pumps. Your going to love them.

I've been in several fish stores that use them and in that environment you can't hear them at all.

I'm doing another 240 build and I will be using a closed loop pump, but I really want to go with a single MP 40 on one end.
I would like to eliminate my current means of flow by removing the power cords from the water.

40s are noticeable above about 40-50 percent. Same thing for the 60s although the ones I just put in the tank today are noisy for some reason. Maybe some time in water will shut them up a bit...

the 40s are early 2013 and the 60s are new. I was just referring to the general uptick in noise with the increase in power. I plan on running the 40s at around 40 to make them silent.

I also think they did something with one of the nuts on the wetside to improve the noise level...
