what is the difference between the b-ionic and the two part stuff at bulkreefsupply?

a friend of mine uses the b-ionic and he really likes it, but if the $30 b-ionic is the same as the $10 two part...

and if I got the stuff from BRS, wuld it be ok to get the larger quantity stuff? or do they have a shelf life?

I have a few additives and test kits that I have no idea how old they are-- do they go bad? there is alkalinity powder, reef builder, ref complete... something like that...

sorry for the novel.. thanks :)

forgot about salt mix.. once its open, does it have to be used soon after? he said an lfs guy told him the trace elements and stuff evaporate into the air once they get oxygen??

so buying a bucket wouldn't be good unless you use it soon after opening?

I switched from the ESV 2-part to the BRS 2-part. The ESV is a little stronger. The BRS is def. a better bang for the buck IMO.

I have buckets of salt sitting waiting to be used. I can't see trace elements being lost from the salt by it being opened. Altough I am no chemist or scientist.

I think you are missing some trace with the BRS supply stuff, although I ordered a bunch for myself. I would assume with regular water changes you would replenish your trace elements but I would like to hear some of the more experienced guys views on dosing trace. I know a lot of guys here change their water 1-2 times a year, and use calcium reactors so I would imagine they dose some kind of trace.

Having said that, what are you guys using to replenish the trace elements that get used up?

I think balancing alkalinity and calcium and keeping up mag levels far outweigh the concern over trace elements, especially when it comes to dosing two part. I switched to BRS stuff more than a year ago, was using homemade stuff before that, and b-ionic before that (when I first started dosing). Doing a water change every blue moon should keep up with trace elements.

Forget b-ionic and save your money for something else. Go with BRS all the way. Just don't forget to keep up with the mag in conjunction with the alk and calc.

thanks for the replies.. I think I will go the BRS route..

If you email Andrew at brs you can still get in on the group buy. The total 2 part kit with magnesium is $70 regular or $50 from the group buy. I bought it, came with jugs and everything you need. Well worth the money IMO.

im already included in the group buy, that's actually what got me to looking at it.. thanks though :)

what did shipping run you? to get an idea...
