Question about tile starfish.

I have had a tile star for about 3 weeks now. He hardly moves at all, and it looks like the tips of his arms are starting to decay(its colors are still bright). I was told this starfish is generally easier to keep than linkia stars, and I have had 2 linkias for months and they look amazing. Is it possible the tile star has a predator I'm unaware of? or did the LFS pull a fast one on me?

I certainly wouldn't say they're easier to keep than Linckia. At best they're equally as difficult. At three weeks you're likely seeing the results of acclimation damage. It will probably get worse and eventually the whole star will turn to mush, but at this point there's nothing you can do but watch and wait.

If the star does survive, starvation will probably do it and the rest of your stars in within a year unless you have a massive tank. Each one of the stars you have needs somewhere in the neighborhood of 100lbs of rock to graze. Sometimes you can get away with less than that, but with 3 stars competing for the same resource, it's not going to happen.

Thanks for the info. I had no idea starfish had that high of a demand. Does size mean anything? I have about 80lbs of live rock and my linkia are only 2.5-3 inches in diameter. I've seen linkia in the LFS that look to be nearly a foot in diameter.
