Question abt G. Smithii

Hi, i was curious, are gonodactylus smithii special in some way?
because i've noticed in some other threads when someone finds out that an unknown mantis they have is a g. smithii it seems to be a great thing! just curious

btw, i used to have one but it died last week :( don't know why

People love the G. Smithii because they are very outgoing, interactive mantis. Mine is watching me as i type right now.

oh, i see, well when mine was alive it didn't come out very often, meaning it sat in his hole all day. and i think it had a health problem because he wouldn't eat, his left dactyl just fell off and then the after it grew back he never kept it folded up.

thanks for the info

yeah, it was a smithii, it had the purple spots on the dactyls and did the "threat pose" to just about everything

My G. smithii hardly ever comes out, either. It does take food readily, though. I've had it for a little over 6 weeks.

my smithii wonders around the tank alot digging in thesand for something to eat or turning over hermit shells to see whats inside. but when i see him and he sees me, he stays very still, dose the threat pose, then darts to his home

it cost me $46. 95, it was either him or the platysoma in the little box next to him. I like my smithii alot more than one of my dogs, is always ducking behind objects then peaking out.

well, here's the story

I went to the LFS and asked if he had any mantis shrimp, the guy there said no, BUT said someone brought in a live rock where the little guy was holed up after destroying a few expensive fish. And he was REALLY in there. So i asked him to throw in some food just to see if it would come out. So he took out some frozen shrimp and RIGHT before he put it in i told him "Take out a net, just in case" so he did. and right when the shrimp hits the water the mantis swims out and grabs the food, the guy with the net is swirling it around the tank trying to catch the little guy and by now i'm saying "TAKE OUT THE STUPID ROCK!":D

well anyway, he took out the rock and when the sand settled, the little mantis is sitting there in the tank. So originally i could've gotten him for $20.00 but i bought the nanocube he was in so the smithii was free! (like i said, SORT OF) so he's been sitting in the nanocube for 2 months until last week, so i don't think anyone knew he had any issues, unless they were my fault :(
